London in Quotations: Paul Theroux

A person who is tired of London is not necessarily tired of life; it might be that he just can’t find a parking place, or is sick of being overcharged.

  1. He was right about parking. I used to pay £90+ a year for a parking permit in Camden, then could hardly ever find a resident’s bay to park in. Research at the council offices in Judd Street showed that Camden provided 90 spaces in my ‘zone’, but sold over 350 permits to residents in the same zone who could only use those 90 spaces.

    Best wishes, Pete.
