At the beginning of this year, TfL introduced a new regulation that requires all new cabs to be “zero-emissions capable”, i.e. hybrid or electric. But, as the (paywalled) Times reports, even though, “more than 40 per cent of private hire cars and black cabs in the city are now electric,” drivers are still finding it hard to charge them because London only has an average of 131 public charging points per 100,000 people.
There are never going to be enough chargers in cities and large towns. It’s all a complete nonsense.
The nearest town to me is Dereham, population around 15,000 currently, and rising steadily. There are 4 charging points at the local Tesco supermarket. That’s it, no others for at least 20 miles in any direction.
Best wishes, Pete.

I could easily have an electric car, as I have off-road parking for 3 cars, as well as a garage. It would be easy to have a unit installed to charge an electric car, but the bloody cars are too expensive to buy! 🙂

We have the same problem here in the Colonies. We have a whiny name as is our usual way…charger anxiety. But it is historically the same problem as when petrol cars came out a hundred plus years ago…why put in new fangled tanks and businesses when I can fuel my horse at any weedy garden roadside hay patch?

There was only a few new-fangled motor vehicles then, now in London we have more Teslas than you could shake a stick at. Thanks for the trip down memory lane!
