The lighted shops of the Strand and Fleet Street; the innumerable trades, tradesmen, and customers, coaches, wagons, playhouses; all the bustle and wickedness round about Covent Garden; the very women of the town; the watchmen, drunken scenes, rattles; life awake, if you awake, at all hours of the night; . . . I often shed tears in the motley Strand from fullness of joy at so much life.

I’m surprised you know of Edmonton as it’s north of The River

Nice to know that Charles enjoyed the hustle and bustle of central London at the time. He was in love with an actress from Covent Garden, Fanny Kelly. He asked her to marry him but she turned him down. At the time, he was living with his sister in the ‘leafy suburb’ of Edmonton, which must have seemed like a long way from the Strand back then.
Best wishes, Pete.
