  1. Outsiders are indeed daunted by London. I used to tell them to think of it as a series of villages, and to not try to get to know it all at once. Using the Tube is never a good idea. I knew people who lived in London for years, and only knew their way around by tube stations. It deprived them of an overview, landmarks, and points of reference.
