20 miles from The City to Acton? That didn’t sound right, so I looked it up. Taking Pudding Lane as the centre of the fire, it is only 9.7 miles west to Acton I think those historians were exaggerating for effect! 😊

I know of two streets in Cambridge that still have gas lighting and Huntingdon railway station still had gas lighting on the platforms well into the 1960s.

When I grew up in Cockfosters during the ’60s the house behind up didn’t have electricity.
