In this city 300 languages are spoken and the people that speak them live side by side in harmony. This city typifies what I believe is the future of the human race and a future where we grow together and we share and we learn from each other.

Ken Livingston (b.1945), press conference, 8th July, 2005
I remember sitting waiting to be seen in my GP surgery in Cumberland Market, and so bored that I was looking at the handout leaflets. I picked up one simple leaflet about signs and symptoms of flu, and how you didn’t need to see a doctor if you had them. But there were seven pages of that simple advice, because five and a half of them were translations of it in 17 languages, including Vietnamese. I never lived anywhere as multi-cultural as the Borough of Camden.
Best wishes, Pete.
